Utah Open State BJJ
Thanks to all the gyms that supported yesterday's tournament. We had a record setting 260 competitors, our largest one yet! The tournament was a success overall however we realize we have some areas we can improve upon. We apologize about the length of the tournament as it went from 10 am to 8 pm and we thank both the coaches and competitors for their patience and understanding in this matter. In order to help us remain on schedule for our next tournament we need the help of both the coaches and the competitors. The coaches need to make sure that the athletes are registered on time. Several athletes were registered as late as 11pm Friday night, the day before the tournament, but had to pay at the event causing us to make brackets the morning of. Athletes need to make sure they are registered for the correct weight division and make the weight rather than showing up and expecting a change in the weight class, which we accommodated, by switching around brackets. We made sure to not disqualify competitors from competing because of missing their weight division by as much as 10 lbs but rather move them into the heaver class. In most other tournaments the athlete would be disqualified with no refund. The goal for our tournaments is to be as inclusive as possible; making sure that we get as many competitors to compete in as many divisions as possible. The mission of this tournament series is to improve jiujitsu for the area and prepare the athletes for the international tournaments with IBJJF. I believe that hand in hand that coaches, athletes, and the Impact BJJ Tournament staff can make more efficient and exciting experience for all.
